I have decided to carry rice in my BOB. I made these nice little vacuum packed single serving bags with bullion, Vegetable medly seasoning, butter flakes, and salt. This cooks up nicely in about 15 min.
The 1/2 cup bags are more than a meal for one person and taste great.
My stove is a Jetboil with the standard cup. It should be able to cook many of these packs because I only need to get the water to a boil, then simmer under really low heat. I like the Jetboil because the fins make this much easier without a separate wind sheild.
I am going to start practicing cooking and cleaning up my cup to get used to doing it quickly and with little water usage.
Does anyone else practice with their cooking gear and choosen BOB food? |

I won't be bugging out(hence the reason for this site) so I store foods that can be prepared w/o cooking if possible. Saving my fuel for sanitation, heat, water purification. etc. _________________ "If this ain't a mess, it'l do 'till one shows up" |

Yep, I enjoy camping & it gives me the chance to use my gear before I need it. My main SHTF rations are MREs, heater meals & Mountain House dried food. I also have found that BSA mess kits are perfect for cooking in the field. (For other foods or hunting/foraging) _________________ "The more corrupt the state, the more numerous the laws."

I am just starting out on making an emergency preparedness cache. I have heard that using a lot of dehydrated foods like beef jerky and trail mixes are the way to go. We usually get jerky free coupons for buy one get one free deals and stuff. We have also learned how to can our fruits and veggies, which have a shelf life up to 10 years. |
